Pick the Bone

I would like to thank Sam Roe at the beginning, I kept in touch with him throughout the production, from the beginning of the image, to the topology, the hair, Sam Roe helped me to understand more about a lot of areas I hadn’t touched and gave me a lot of advice, and we experimented with a lot of different things together.

Week 1

After more research, I felt that the previous carving was more like a squirrel, and then for the limbs I also watched more videos, as well as reference, and carved to a form I was more satisfied with

During this week, I did very much…

First I have changed two versions of the shape

1.

2.

During the change, I had a communication with Sam. In particular, it was very helpful to send me a 3D hamster model, and I continued to do more research on hamsters and rats during production, which gave me a better understanding of the differences between hamsters and rats (e.g., the nose is not as protruding, the feet are not as long, and the tail is not as long), as well as the fact that hamsters have four hands and five feet, and that the shape of the big toe is more like the structure of a human thumb The shape of the big toe is more like the structure of a human thumb.

After that I started the painful journey of re-topology

This is where I had a lot of discussion with Sam, because I really had a lot of trouble picking up on this, and although not a complete newbie, I did go into it with more than a few doubts before I started.

But this other teacher gave me a website that really helped me understand a lot of things.

And finally I made this topology

This gave me more practice with the 3-1 or 4-1 and gave me more ideas for Loop

And like the topology of the hand, I made it according to the reference in the website, in the process of imitation, I suddenly thought of a lot of things I was struggling with before, as well as I used the same method in the production of the foot part, and enhance the side of memory, the only hard thing is that many times I need to count the edges one by one to ensure that there are no mistakes, as well as like the fingers need 12 edges, and in the connection to the wrist is 18 edges, if only the simplest way to make it, it requires 12 X 4 number of turns

During the baking process black lines would appear, (on the hands and feet which are close together) and after researching this I found that it was due to the over expansion of the high moulds when baking and the number of overlapping sides, but if you reduce the wrap, there would be red areas as some parts of the high moulds did not manage to wrap around the low moulds.

The first method I tried was to split the hands and feet and body into two uv’s for baking, which worked, but also took up more performance because there were two uv’s.

The second method was to expand the red part of the low die directly, which solved the problem much more quickly.

I tried the hair system and it rendered great, but I made it look like I was balding …..

The hairs are harder to control than I thought

But at the same time I got more ideas about material drawing, besides the bare skin, the hair is coloured according to the root colour
