Year 3 – Professional Future

between our discussions in class today, we settled on a clay style, and I happen to have produced something related to it, so I have some ideas for the material. I created a simple table to organize ideas on how to use blender to create and how to implement in the future using UE5, which I’m not that proficient in, so hopefully this will give you some reference.

I did a tutorial based on my experience as well as some suggestions, after which the 3D TEAM LEADER also commented on the different ways to make it

He advocated for us to come up with some of our own ideas on production materials

But our discussion didn’t involve a specific implementation of the method, or for example voting to decide on the method or anything like that, probably limited by the fact that we still have too little information about the other groups we have access to at the moment, which results in us being very limited in what we can do.

As of now, I don’t really know what to do in the future.

I’ve done some experimenting with textures, the current method is to use a “WorldAlignedTexture” to achieve this effect, we don’t need to have UV’s and he will move the texture according to the world coordinates.

The normal quality needs to be improved further, maybe we can use substance’s scanning software to make normals.

And about the texture panning effect when moving, it should be better if the character is moving in stop-motion animation.

As well as the mesh bump deformation would work better if it could be deformed according to the Wolloyd material, but at the moment I don’t see a node for that in UE.

Among them, WorldAlignedTexture output results in floating point, can not be directly converted to Normal map, so you need to make a good normal map in advance, I use the web page conversion lost a lot of resolution. Subsequent can be made with scanning software.
